Lady Day was held on the 31st March 2008 at St. Cuthbert's Satley. There were six banners and 58 members of the mother's union attended the service, which was evensong , taken by the Rev. Geoff Lowes. Mrs C Lawes said the prayers, Mrs. Margaret Walker and Mrs Carole Hopkins were the readers and the organ was played by Mrs Pat Gibson. The banners were from Tow Law, Stanley Crook, Crook, Wolsingham, Stanhope and our own beautiful banner carried by Mrs. Linda Butterfield.
Tea was served in the hall by our churchwarden Mrs Chrissie Clark, and Mrs Evelyn Hudson. There was a nice friendly atmosphere with people enjoying meeting up again and chatting over afternoon tea.
The weather was very kind, a lovely spring day, warm and sunny for a change, and the day reminded me of part of the poem by Robert Browning:
The years at the spring; The day's at the morn; Morning's at seven; The hill-side's dew-pearled; The lark's on the wing; The snail's on the thorn: God's in his heaven... All's right with the world!
