THE PRESENT CHURCH

The present Church, dedicated to St Cuthbert, is a neat stone building consisting of an ancient nave with western gallery, chancel with organ chamber and vestry, southern porch and low square western tower containing one bell. Two windows filled with stained glass on the south side and two similar windows on the north side light the nave. At the west end of the tower is a pointed window of two lights of plain diamond panes. The gallery at the west end extends over the full width of the nave and beneath it is the Baptistery with a stone font which was erected in 1871. It took the place of an ancient font. The chancel is separated from the nave by a pointed arch springing from projecting corbels and is lit by one window of stained glass on the south side and by a large window of three lights of coloured glass on the east.

INSIDE THE CHURCH

Before it was rebuilt the chancel had been in ruins for 300 years.  On the south wall of the chancel there is a brass plate with the inscription "To the Glory of God and in memory of John Greenwell, Esq., of Broomshields Hall who died on the 7th December 1869 in the 89th year of his age.  The Chancel is erected by his family A.D. 1870 as a Token of their Respect and Affection to his Memory"  On the north side is a similar plate inscribed "The Chancel was reseated and Embellished by Voluntary Subscription A.D. 1870  J.P. DePledge, Vicar, George Alder, William Fawcett, Churchwardens."
